As an author of a book about bay houses, Silver Strand captures the lore of baymen, bay houses and the different perspectives of those who live on land. The characters are authentic, and the description of the south shore during the 19th and early 20th century is spot on. The book is well written and it's a page turner. I especially enjoyed the descriptions of those who built the long Beach hotel, Senator Reynolds, the competition of developers in the early 20th century, and the various people who called Long Beach home. Don't miss this book!

I liked everything about the book. It was a very enjoyable and interesting read which made it difficult for
me to put the book down. My family has had ties to Long Beach since my grandparents moved from
Brooklyn to Long Beach with their young family in 1923. I especially liked how the author recounted the
history of the early Long Beach years which I knew very little about. I enjoyed hearing stories about the
people who lived in Long Beach over the years as I knew or had heard about many of them. It was a trip
down memory lane. Long Beach is such a unique city whose story had to be told and the author told that
story in a very thorough and well researched way.

I love when writers use historical facts and meld them with people of the time periods. This book is definitely worth reading! I enjoyed all the characters and how they relate to each other from the past, present and future. The author's sister and brother-in-law, Gerri and Jim, are dear friends of my husband and me. If they haven't read it already, I am turning the book over to them to read. Thank you for this terrific read, Dennis E. Carey! - Faye Z

This is, for me anyway, a totally fresh approach to historical fiction and one that grabbed my attention immediately. Instead of dwelling on just a few characters in a limited span of time, Dr. Dennis Carey takes us on a whirlwind ride of many characters over several lifespans and epochs in American History as experienced in Long Beach, Long Island, New York. His writing is sensitive and beautiful yet direct and, like any good Irishman true to his name, he can tell a hell of a story that will keep you mesmerized while you soak up some colorful history at the same time. Don’t miss this one.

An enchanting story line, colorful characters, and the inclusion of actual historical figures make for a reading experience which is both entertaining and informative. It made me wish that I had grown up on Long Beach!
